Will You Marry ME?

Maybe this will be a weekly blog? LOL. It is finally Friday and I couldn't be happier. I thought perhaps I will dedicate this posting to improving your marriage (as if I am a great resource or something-tehe). As much as we might like to think that our marriage is great as is, everyone's can use help at some point or another.

When we were little, our parents and teachers would read us fairy tales of happily ever after. The butterflies were ever present, google eyes, and the romantic gestures never ended. Let's face it folks. Marriage is hardly that. Marriage can quite simply be summed up as learning to fall in love with each other over and over again. It isn't the constant state of being IN LOVE but rather the pursuit to continue falling in love.

So what kinda things would make one fall in love all over again and again? Well working at the marriage. It doesn't just happen. Let's try to erase those fairy tales, the visions of romantic movies, and those fantasies where things just happen. Let's get real.

I made a list of little things I could do to improve my marriage...
Go to church together
Write letters to Seth
Set up a schedule to take care of the house
Exercise together
Spend less time on the computer when Charles is asleep so that we can connect better
Call him once a day to let him know I am thinking of him
Setting down to eat meals as a family at the table
Hugging when he gets home from work
Talking about our days together

These are just some of the things that I have resolved to do. Here are some of the things I have resolved not to do:
List what all I have done during the day (if he can't see it and appreciate then I'll hope he notices a different day)
Complain about my day right when he walks in the door
Nag him about cleaning-I just ask once
Argue in front of Charles

I hope that this might inspire someone else to work on their marriage a little bit harder, a little bit longer. After all who wants to be in that 1/3 that gets divorced?
